About 18+ Only Supported Accommodation Providers

Welcome to 18+ Only Supported Accommodation Providers, a dedicated service based in London, United Kingdom. We are committed to providing specialized supported accommodation for young adults who are care leavers transitioning into adulthood and moving towards independent living in the community. We focus on the unique needs of this age group, offering person-centered support tailored to their development and aspirations.

Our Commitment to Young Adults in The UK

At 18+ Only Supported Accommodation Providers, we provide a safe and supportive environment for young adults in the UK transitioning from care to independent living. We're dedicated to empowering them with the skills and resources they need to thrive.

Our Comprehensive Support Services

We understand that young adults need a range of support as they transition to independence. That's why we offer a comprehensive suite of services tailored to individual needs.

Our specific support includes:

  • Life Skills Training: Cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, time management, and other essential activities of daily living (ADL).
  • Practical Assistance: Attending appointments, completing forms, responding to letters and correspondences, budgeting, and shopping.
  • Promoting Healthy Lifestyles: Maintaining healthy relationships, abstaining from bad habits such as smoking, drug use, and gambling.
  • Gang Prevention and Support: Advice and awareness to prevent joining gangs, and support for leaving gangs if already affiliated.
  • Addressing Critical Issues: Support regarding sexual exploitation, terrorism, bullying, violence, stealing, drug dealing, and all forms of criminality.
  • Educational and Vocational Support: Encouragement to pursue education, training, and employment, and to prioritize saving over impulsive spending.

What Makes Us Different? We Provide Person-Centered Support

We stand out from other providers in the UK by prioritizing person-centred care. We focus on the individual needs of each young person and tailor our services accordingly. We work collaboratively with them to identify their specific needs and provide solutions that empower them, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach.

The Journey to Independent Living

The typical journey for a young adult starting with our services involves a structured and supportive approach to independent living:

  • Key Worker Allocation: Each young person is assigned a dedicated Key Worker as their primary point of contact.
  • Regular Key Work Sessions: Weekly sessions are held to create a personalized support plan, outlining the specific support provision.
  • Independent Living Preparation: As progress is made, young people are gradually prepared for independent living, including keeping appointments and acquiring activities of daily living skills (ADL).
  • Saving and Financial Planning: Support is provided to start saving for items needed for independent living.
  • Housing Assistance: Working with their Social Worker, an action plan is put in place to register for housing and begin the bidding process.
  • Move-on Support: Ultimately, young adults are supported to move into their own flat in the community or private rented accommodation.

Our Mission

At 18+ Only Supported Accommodation Providers, we recognized a gap in services for young adults who are no longer covered under Ofsted regulations but still require support during their transition to independent living. We aim to fill this gap by providing specialized care and support that addresses the unique challenges faced by this age group. Our goal is to empower young adults to confidently navigate their journey towards adulthood.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What's the story behind '18+ Only Supported Accommodation Providers'? What inspired us to start this service?

There are many Supported Accommodation Service Providers in the UK but all of them focus on 16+ young persons who are subject to Ofsted regulation and control. There is none for 18+ only providers. This was why the idea to create this forum to fill this gap in the sector. And when this idea was muted in October 2024 some providers joined the group. As at now we have 18 members.

2. What makes your approach to supported accommodation different from other providers in the UK?

We focus mainly on issues and aspects that affect 18+ placements as this segment of the Supported Accommodation is relatively neglected in the midst of 16+ which covers ages 16 - 25.

3. In your own words, what does 'transition into adulthood' really mean for the young adults you support?

The young person is growing to become an adult from the age 16-18. At that age they are very vulnerable and as such, they are protected and the provision for their placement is regulated by Ofsted. The age development continues till age 25 but as soon as they are over 18 (18+) they are no longer under any protection and so the non-regulated 18+ Providers remain available to provide them with supported accommodation placements in that transition from 18+ - 25 before they are totally released to live independently in the Community of their choice.

4. If a young adult or their social worker was reading this, what's the one thing you'd want them to know about the care and support you offer?

We realised that this group of young adults often get lumped up with the 16+ which led to neglecting the special needs of this client group. As 18+ only Providers we specialise in looking into what young persons within this group need and we endeavour to meet their needs. For example, they are not children 16-18 yet they are often called children by the definition of their placements. They are young adults and should be treated as such. This is what we constantly promote and we ensure that this service provision that is person-centred is adequately delivered to the right client group always and not overlooked or neglected.
